History Kumasi Polytechnic has a chequered history. It is a spectacularly beautiful institution, which is located at the heart of the garden city of West Africa, the capital city of the Ashanti Region of Ghana (Kumasi). It was first established as Kumasi Technical Institute in 1954. The programmes of study then were craft courses. In October 1963 the institution was turned into a Polytechnic with a second cycle status under the control of the Ghana Education Service. The main programmes which were taught from that time were technical courses in Engineering, Catering and Fashion Design. We currently run 15 full-time and 24 part-time programmes with a student population of 4,722 under three schools namely, Applied Science, Business Studies and Engineering. Tertiary Kumasi Polytechnic received tertiary status in the early 1990s with a mission to undertake the following: - provide tertiary education through full time courses in the field of manufacturing,
- commerce, science, technology, applied social science and applied arts;
- encourage study in technical subjects at tertiary level; and
- provide the opportunity for development, research and publication of research findings.
