One of them, Kwame Agbonyah, 14, was allegedly killed by a peer, aged 12. Confirming the unfortunate incident to the Daily Graphic at Breman Asikuma, Detective Inspector Ransford Obutey Cobbinah of the Crime Unit of the Breman Asikuma District Police said the four boys, all from Kwaku Boah village near Brakwa in the Central Region, went on a hunting expedition last Wednesday. According to him, Wednesdays had been declared sacred days by the traditional authorities in the area. He said in the course of the expedition, the oldest of the boys shot a squirrel on a tree with a catapult. Inspector Cobbinah said no sooner had the animal landed on the ground than Agbonyah dashed forward to capture it. According to him, before Agbonyah could reach the squirrel, the 12-year-old and youngest of the four boys, who was behind Agbonyah, threw his sharp machete with the aim of killing the animal. Inspector Cobbinah said unfortunately for him, the machete deeply cut the lower left arm of the victim, who bled profusely. He said in an attempt to save Agbonyah, the three other boys quickly collected some herbs, put them on the wound and tied it to stop the bleeding. Inspector Cobbinah said one of them carried the wounded Agbonyah with the aim of taking him home and reporting the matter to his parents. However, on the way home, he felt tired so they left the wounded in the bush and rushed home to alert his relatives in order to convey him to hospital. He said Agbonyah’s parents were informed of the incident, and together with the youth of the village, they rushed to the scene where they found him in critical condition. Inspector Cobbinah stated that they carried the injured boy to the roadside, from where he was conveyed in a vehicle to the Brakwa Health Centre. He said on reaching the health centre, the medical personnel gave him first aid and referred him to the Breman Asikuma Government Hospital for further treatment but he died on the way. The body of the victim has been deposited at the morgue of the hospital.
