How To Make ICT A Success In Schools

Information and communication technology (ICT) is now a common subject introduced in most schools, but there is the need for improvement to maintain its success.

Schools must have electricity to operate the computers, facilities to house the computers and also qualified and trained teachers to teach the subject.

All schools should be provided with electricity to operate the computers. A school can have a lot of computers but without electricity for them to operate they are useless.

Most basic schools in Ghana do not have electricity and therefore cannot effectively run an ICT programme.

Second, some teachers who teach JCT are currently unqualified. This means information passed on could be incorrect and detrimental to the students. Trained and qualified teachers are essential if students are to truly understand and apply ICT I therefore call on The Ministry of Education to train enough teachers for the ICT programme.

All schools where ICT is taught should be provided with computers and a place to store them. This will enable the students to have practical lessons and will also help the teachers to better convey information.

I hope the government and other stakeholders in education will give my humble ideas: some consideration.
