MP sponsors mock exams for children

In his quest to improve educational standards of junior high schools in the Ellembelle District, the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Emmanuel Ammah Kofi Buah, has sponsored the writing of mock examination to prepare students for this year’s basic level exams.

The children will also be motivated and inspired to disabuse their minds of any examination fright.

The MP was of the view that most students could not do well in their exams not because they were not intelligent, but because they lacked the confidence to write exams.

He said it was therefore important to expose the children to mock examination to prepare them psychologically to enter the examination halls with the "can do" spirit.

The MP, who is also the Deputy Minister for Energy, said it was important that children were not put in school because they had to be in school, but they must be given the needed attention to ensure that the aim' of sending them to school was achieved.

Mr Buah said his motivation to sponsor the mock exams was because of his deep passion to ensure that children did not only pass their exams but also came out with the needed skills, which would serve as the backup for the country's hUl11an resource.

"I have always maintained that these children are the future administrators of the country, therefore, we have to collectively invest and shape them in a way that will secure the future of the country," he said

According to him, the pre-examination or mock which was ongoing in all the schools in the district was a process which would help to ease the frig!1t and nervousness students faced and they would be emboldened to step into the exams hall with confidence.

He said exam malpractices could be eliminated if the child was imbued with self-confidence to know that the final exam was not different from what they wrote in class.

The MP also revealed that in order to improve girl- child education the district~ five students were being sponsored at the junior high level with the hope that more girls would be considered at the senior high level.

The District Chief Executive, Daniel K. Eshun, was optimistic that the approach by the MP would help improve exams scores in the district and therefore called on the teachers to report any shortfalls that they would observe to enable the MP to work at them to put things in place during the super mock Exams.

Mr Peter Tawiah, the District Director of Education, was hopeful that the move would assist the district directorate to determine the level learning of students in the district and expressed gratitude to the MP for his commitment to education in the district.
